AdverbsEnglish level A2
Too / Enough
Too says there is more than is good; enough says the amount is sufficient — and they sit on different sides of the word.
Rule
Too goes before an adjective (too hot = more than we want). Enough goes after an adjective (warm enough) but before a noun (enough money).
Formula
| too + adjective | more than is good | The coffee is too hot.I'm too tired to cook. |
|---|---|---|
| adjective + enough | sufficient degree | Is the water warm enough? He isn't old enough to drive. |
| enough + noun | sufficient amount | We have enough money.There isn't enough time. |
Common mistakes
Wrong: enough warmCorrect: warm enoughEnough follows adjectives.Wrong: too much hotCorrect: too hotBefore an adjective, just too.

- too + to V1: It is too late to call.
