Already / Just / Yet

Tres palabras propias del Present Perfect: just para algo que ocurrió hace un momento, already para algo que sucedió antes de lo esperado y yet para algo que todavía no ha ocurrido.

Regla

Coloca just y already entre have/has y V3. Coloca yet al final de la oración y úsalo solo en negativas y preguntas.

Consejo

Dos van en medio y una espera al final: I have just eaten, I have already eaten, pero I haven't eaten yet.

En una conversación

  • AHave you packed for the trip yet?
  • BI've already packed the clothes, but I haven't found my passport yet.
  • AI have just seen it on the kitchen table.

Errores frecuentes

  • Incorrecto: I have finished my homework yet.Correcto: I have already finished my homework.Yet no se usa en una oración afirmativa; usa already.
  • Incorrecto: I haven't already eaten.Correcto: I haven't eaten yet.Las negativas llevan yet, y yet va al final.
  • Incorrecto: She has arrived just.Correcto: She has just arrived.Just va entre has y V3, nunca al final.

Notas

  • Already en una pregunta expresa sorpresa: Have you already finished? (¡qué rápido!)
  • Yet también puede significar «hasta ahora» en una pregunta: Has he called you yet?
  • En el inglés estadounidense cotidiano puedes oír Past Simple con estas palabras: I just ate. El inglés británico conserva Present Perfect: I have just eaten.
