Already / Just / Yet

Tre parole tipiche del Present Perfect: just per un attimo fa, already per prima del previsto, yet per ciò che non è ancora successo.

Regola

Metti just e already tra have/has e V3. Metti yet alla fine della frase e usalo solo nelle frasi negative e nelle domande.

Suggerimento

Due stanno al centro, una aspetta alla fine: I have just eaten, I have already eaten — ma I haven't eaten yet.

Nel dialogo

  • AHave you packed for the trip yet?
  • BI've already packed the clothes, but I haven't found my passport yet.
  • AI have just seen it on the kitchen table.

Errori comuni

  • Sbagliato: I have finished my homework yet.Corretto: I have already finished my homework.Yet non si usa in una frase affermativa: usa already.
  • Sbagliato: I haven't already eaten.Corretto: I haven't eaten yet.Le frasi negative richiedono yet, che va alla fine.
  • Sbagliato: She has arrived just.Corretto: She has just arrived.Just va tra has e V3, mai alla fine.

Note

  • Already in una domanda esprime sorpresa: Have you already finished? (così presto!)
  • Yet può anche significare «finora» in una domanda: Has he called you yet?
  • Nell’inglese americano quotidiano puoi sentire il Past Simple con queste parole: I just ate. L’inglese britannico mantiene il Present Perfect: I have just eaten.
