Question tags
Piccole domande alla fine della frase che chiedono conferma: You like tea, don't you?
Regola
Ripeti l’ausiliare (o do/does/did) e inverti la polarità: una frase affermativa richiede un tag negativo, una frase negativa un tag affermativo. Il soggetto diventa un pronome.
Struttura
| Frase affermativa → tag negativo | ..., isn't it? / ..., don't you? | It's cold, isn't it?You like tea, don't you? |
|---|---|---|
| Frase negativa → tag affermativo | ..., is it? / ..., do you? | It isn't far, is it?She doesn't drive, does she? |
| Casi particolari | I am → aren't I?Let's → shall we? | I'm right, aren't I?Let's start, shall we? |
Errori comuni
Sbagliato: You like tea, isn't it?Corretto: You like tea, don't you?Il tag ripete l’ausiliare della frase principale.
Note
- Intonazione discendente = ti aspetti conferma; ascendente = è una vera domanda
